No incoming news about D’Angelo during the past ten years. During the 90’s and in the beginning of the year 2000, he developed into the star of soul. His albums ‘Brown Sugar’ and ‘Voodoo’ were considered to be instant classics. At the beginning of this year, he made his long-expected comeback with some well appreciated European concerts in Paris, in the Paradiso in Amsterdam and many more. 2012 must be the year of D’Angelo’s comeback.
With his first album ‘Brown Sugar’, D’Angelo became one of the leading representatives of neo soul together with Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and Maxwell. His first album was followed by some guest appearances on the albums of Lauryn Hyll ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ and many others. It lasted until 2000 before the new album ‘Voodoo’ came out. The album was again a success, thanks to the song “Untitled (How Does It Feel) and the sexy video clip that went along with it. After these successes, things went badly wrong. Besides a few guest appearances, mainly negative rumors were spread about D’Angelo. Some court appearances, gossip about numerous addictions and so on. People were therefore amazed when they heard about a new upcoming tour at the end of last year and many had already given up hope. D’Angelo proved the critics and doubters easily wrong with his concerts at the beginning of this year. It was clear that he had missed the stage as much as the soul and funk music had missed him during the past decennium. In meantime, people are chattering about a new album, which should be finished already. We have been waiting for a long period of time, but D’Angelo is definitely back!
