Black Dub is top producer and pure-bred musician Daniel Lanois’ project in which he works together with drummer Brian Blade and vocalist Trixie Whitley. Black Dub should have performed at the Gent Jazz Festival last year, but Daniel Lanois had a severe motorcycle accident which led to him to cancel the entire world tour. Trixie Whitley then went on stage by herself with a special act and impressed everyone massively.

When asked why Lanois chose to give this project the name ‘Black Dub’, Trixie answered “Daniel Lanois was in the studio with Bono and he told Lanois his music and lyrics are always so dark. Daniel responded by saying he would start with something called Black Dub.” Daniel adores dub, the roots of reggae. Black Dub breathes out a summer vibe but is also filled with deep and heavy bass lines. It returns, back to basics, the necessity out of which music is born. (interview Pierre De Decker © Agenda)

Daniel Lanois is mainly known for being the producer of U2, but he also worked together with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Emmylou Harris and a lot of others. His own work is also characterized by his open and intense personal touch, the typical ‘Daniel Lanois Sound’, present in his ‘Jolie Louise’, and in his instrumental work.

Brian Blade is the drummer with Wayne Shorter, the legendary saxophonist with whom he has performed at Gent Jazz Festival. Besides that he has also played alongside Norah Jones and Joni Mitchell and others. Brian is considered one of the top shelf jazz drummers .

Trixie Whitley was practically born in the studio. She was born in 1987, the daughter of singer Chris Whitley, who passed away in 2005. The family soon moved to New York where she spent a lot of time in the studio with her father. Trixie learned to play several instruments like the piano, drums and the guitar. But she was above all blessed with a magnificent and soulful voice.

Daniel Lanois has in the meantime fully recovered and the record Black Dub was released last year. We have all been waiting for this upcoming show including the return of Trixie Whitley and Brian Blade.
