Funk, jazz, latin… it seems as if DJ Maestro (Martijn Barkhuis) was raised with soul food and chili peppers but he actually originates from a family consisting of all members who listened to classical music and who played the cello or the violin. Maestro himself played the violin “fairly good” but took the view that “if someone else has more talent than you do, you should let them play for you.”
This does certainly not mean this DJ doesn’t know how to captivate his audience. His Note Trip parties are known all over Holland. He has his own record label, Dig This!, composes the program of the IJazz Amsterdam Festival, is part of the organization that deals with the programs of The Hague Jazz Festival and of the jazz club Jazz on the Riverbank in Amsterdam. Besides all that, he is the creator of Radio Jazz as well. Of his compilations Blue Note Trips, already 250,000 copies were sold. The tenth edition of his Blue Note Trip series will be in stores in April, a jubilee!
