Jamie Cullum knows how to charm audiences with a unique energetic mix of jazz, pop and rock. Four years ago he performed in Ghent, closing the Gent Jazz Festival with a memorable live performance. Although Cullum is often criticised by jazz purists for his popular songs, he is adored by many. First and foremost, Jamie Cullum is a truly gifted musician whose powerful songs and highly entertaining concerts have earned him superstar status.
Though his music is firmly rooted in jazz, Cullum enjoys the freedom of exploring and embracing many different styles.
For his new album ‘Momentum’ (May 2013) Cullum experimented with apps, old cassette recorders and charity shop keyboards. The mix of old and new refers to the overall theme of the album: “The album is about that crossover period from youth into adulthood where you still have one foot in each. (…) You start to understand the world in such a different way and see things more as they are – both ugly and beautiful. You’re caught between that fresh sense of the wider picture whilst still battling those same old issues within your own head.”
