STUFF.
STUFF. is a young instrumental improvisation collective which was founded by Lander Gyselinck. STUFF. stands for musical references to jazz, soul, funk, dub, hip hop, jungle and electronics.
By improvising, they transform samples and already existing or new loops into adventurous jams. Inspiration sources differ from J Dilla, Afrika Bambaata, Erykah Badu to beat makers such as Flying Lotus, Dorian Concept, Hudson Mohawke etc… They describe their sound as “live glitch trip hop” or “fat beats, swirling improvisations, evil synth-screaming and ‘outer space’-grooves is what Stuff will serve you.”
We can find Mixmonster Menno in DJ Grazzhoppa’s DJ Big Band. Andrew Claes is known from BRZZVLL, the band, named Brazzaville at that time, with which he once won the competition for Young Jazz Talent Ghent. Joris Caluwaerts played with Zita Swoon, Franco Saint De Bakker and Rudy Trouvé Septet. Dries Laheye performs in duo with Nicholas Thys and also plays with Lidlboj. Lander Gyselinck, who forms the pivot on which everything hinges in this project, is considered to be one of the major talents in the Belgian jazz scene and plays with numerous bands among which the Kris Defoort Trio and LABTrio. Together this young crowd forms STUFF.
STUFF.’s performance at the Handelbeurs in Ghent in April already led to a booming spectacle while playing as support act for the Rober Glasper Experiment. We are therefore definitely looking forward to their visit at Gent Jazz Festival!
