The Unrevealed Society
The Unrevealed Society won last year’s Young Jazz Talent Ghent contest. The jury was full of praise for the irresistible lightness of their rich and complex music.
The group tinkers with jazz, rock and electro and regards contemporary music with eyes wide open. The group’s name refers to architecture, as yet unknown, which forms the framework of their compositions and improvisations. The Unrevealed Society is constantly teetering on the sharp edge of structure and free improvisation. Their music often sounds melancholy, but without falling into all too easy clichés.
“They make multifaceted, complex music, in which a large number of diverse sources are tapped into, from romantic classics through Weather Report and Sonny Rollins to free jazz”, wrote the jury last year. And also, “The compositions of the two leaders, pianist Léo Dupleix and bassist Pol Belardi, are so deftly constructed that the performance is permeated by an irresistible lightness”.
