LupaGangGang
The story of LupaGangGang begins in 2017. During a jamming session at a music camp, guitarist-vocalist Anton Robberechts encountered keyboard player Miel De Koninck, bassist-vocalist Lena Thijs and drummer Rob Swennen. Everything clicked and the young musicians, all teenagers at the time, decided to move forward together. In the first instance, with a handful of covers, then gradually their own work and... 17 seconds of fame on national television as house-band in 'The Ideal Husband’. A TV début without having released anything? LupaGangGang gets it done!
In 2020, the quartet created 'Stalingrad’, their début EP. This encompassed an amalgamation of influences from jazz, punk, hip hop and electronica, creating an interesting middle ground from four young musicians who were getting to know each other’s musical characters while still exploring and experimenting. It is a quest to find (im)balance, which the group follows to this day. In March, they released 'Dopamine Overdose’, their début record, with the cutting-edge Sdban Ultra (STUFF., ECHT!, TaxiWars…). Layered, instrumental fusion jazz compositions intertwine with catchy pop songs and socially critical lyrics. Their own sound is more defined but the tributes to bands such as Black Midi, Kamaal Williams and STUFF. still come through. Influences such as those should always be played out! Anyone who has seen them play live is completely blown away; the youngsters’ indomitable enthusiasm and irrepressible energy are contagious. Refreshing, innovative, mischievous and tonnes of attitude: it’s time to join the LupaGangGang-gang!
