Full line-up Gent Jazz 2023 revealed!

With the announcement of the latest additions to 13 July - the day Nils Frahm will be headlining - the full line-up of Gent Jazz 2023 has now been revealed. More than sixty jazz-related artists will bring countless unforgettable moments to Ghent's Bijloke site between 5 and 15 July.

It was already known that Nils Frahm would close the Main Stage on 13 July. The German composer who combines neoclassical piano compositions with electronics is an absolute crowd favourite. His unique musical approach - both soothing and danceable - has earned him a place on the biggest festivals and manages to captivate a broad spectrum of music lovers. Frahm will undoubtedly be very convincing in the beautiful setting and atmosphere of Gent Jazz.

With the six final names performing on July 13th, the line-up of Gent Jazz is now complete. On the Main Stage, Ukrainian harpist Alina Bzhezhinska kicks off the evening with her HipHarpCollective. The young Bzhezhinska has already been compared to jazz harp legends Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane. However, adding experimental vibes from free jazz and influences from nineties genres like trip-hop and afrobeat, the Ukrainian is entirely in the present and has been called one of the most important voices in the contemporary jazz scene.

Also on the Main Stage: Portico Quartet. They immediately broke ground in 2007 with their debut 'Knee-Deep in the North Sea' but proved record after record that their mix of jazz, ambient, classical and electronica is not a one trick pony but rather a gift that keeps on giving. Or to put it in the words of The Guardian, "Portico Quartet is at the intersection of Radiohead, The Cinematic Orchestra and Efterklang".

Our countrymen Stavroz - closers of the Main Stage - can also count on a lot of international acclaim. From America to Australia and literally the whole world in between: they've been there. Yet in Belgium, they remained under the radar for a long time. At Gent Jazz, this 'organic house' quartet - part electronic, part acoustic - will prove why that is undeserved. Be prepared to dance!

More homegrown pride can be found on The Garden Stage with Elias and Dries Laheye. You may know the former as drummer of Nordmann, Robbing Millions and Hypochristmutreefuzz but he proves to be an absolute solo craftsman as well. Debut album 'Bloomed > Exploded' meanders between spherical, bright melodies and subdued rhythms, topped with a slight existential sentiment. Live with full band! Laheye, on the other hand, is known as the bassist of - among others - STUFF. As a solo artist, he wanted to make music that, in a way, is always in motion. The result of that intention are spherical compositions with room for live improvisation and interpretation.

Closer Salami Rose Joe Louis will lead the night owls among you on a strange but fantastic musical experience on the border of jazz, rock, hip-hop and contemporary pop. Accompanying main character: a synth wizard with a torch, a jar of cashews and hopeful optimism! That can only result in a tantalising storyline.
