As daughter of sitar legend Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar was immersed in Indian classical music from a very young age. Nevertheless, she found her own pathway as a musician, composer and activist. In her work, she pushes the boundaries of tradition by combining the sitar with everything from jazz and electronica to flamenco and contemporary classical music. Content is also important to Shankar the activist; the albums 'Traces of You’ and 'Land of Gold’ reflect both personal stories as well as broader social topics such as migration and human rights. Collaborations with artists including Norah Jones, Karsh Hale, Herbie Hancock, Gold Panda and the Kronos Quartet have underlined her versatility and penchant for experimenting. Live, Shankar demonstrates once again what a rare artist she is; a virtuoso, passionate and innovative, someone who can find a balance between many lives and yet give each life the focus it deserves. An artist who effortlessly combines tradition and innovation.
