Branford Marsalis has nothing to prove. He has played with Miles Davis, was a permanent musician for Sting, is a celebrated soloist and has been touring the world with his own quartet for over forty years. His playing is virtuoso, his improvisations sharp and his musical vision uncompromising. The three Grammys on his shelf are evidence of his accomplishments. And, at the age of 64, the American saxophonist has decided to release a début on the legendary Blue Note Records. On 'Belonging’, Marsalis and his quartet pay tribute to the 1974 album of the same name by Keith Jarrett - one of modern jazz's most influential pianists. He will perform this album live at Gent Jazz. Don’t expect literal reconstructions but rather reinterpretations with the unpredictability and intensity that characterise the Marsalis quartet. Along with pianist Joey Calderazzo, bassist Eric Revis and drummer Justin Faulkner, Marsalis will take the repertoire of Jarrett to new heights, while respecting the original and adding his own, special twist. A challenge most would not rush to take on.
