Abel Ghekiere is a Belgian multi-instrumentalist with a sound that comes from minimalist jazz, traditional folk and field recordings. His début album 'Voor het verdwijnt, en daarna’ laid bare traces of sadness and loss and provided comfort and consolation. In his new music, he plays with greater openness, softness and euphoria. The inspiration for the intuitive, stripped-back form of song-writing comes from artists such as Nils Økland, Sufjan Stevens and Caroline. Abel is a guitarist by trade but also plays the clarinet and banjo in the studio and on stage. His new album 'In de verte, dit uitzicht’ was released in February online and on vinyl by Rotkat records. Live, he plays in a quartet with Tobias Volckaert (sax), Orlan Ghekiere (drums) and Hendrike Scharmann (violin).
