Alpacas Collective is an 11-person collective with Leuven as its base. Alpacas Collective combines influences from Lagos to Addis Ababa, from New Orleans to Augusta, Georgia, and from New Delhi to science-fiction worlds far outside our solar system.

The band is inspired by James Brown, Fela Kuti, Mulatu Astatke, The Meters, Sun Ra, Ravi Shankar, The Heliocentrics and many others. Just like their artistic heroes, their grooves are peppered with incisive horns, melodious keyboards and cascading percussion breaks. Funk offers the foundations, seasoned with influences from afro, jazz, kraut, soul and eastern sounds.

During the pandemic, the group retreated underground to search for soul-saving creativity and then issued two releases in 2022 and 2023.
'Seven wisdoms of Plutonia’ and 'Big Words’ took top slots on many end-of-year listings.

Alpacas Collective has shared a stage with renowned acts such as The Budos Band, Lefties Soul Connection, Cody Chesnutt, Quantic Soul Orchestra, The Poets of Rhythm, Mulatu Astatke and more.
