Gent Jazz is all about crossing genres. There is no such thing as silo thinking here. In this respect, legendary DJ Shadow - the moniker of Joshua Davis - is a particularly apt name to include on the bill. From his iconic masterpiece 'Endtroducing…’ (1996) across the unsurpassed UNKLE album 'Psyence Fiction’ (1998) all the way up to the enchanting elegance of 'The Private Press’ (2002) which contained global hit 'Six Days’... His albums from the 90s and noughties soon came to be considered essential in musical history.

Though none of this ever made Shadow rest on his laurels. 'The Less You Know, the Better’ (2011) sees him take on rock music. At the end of the previous decade, he worked with rap greats such as Nas, Run The Jewels and De La Soul on 'The Mountain Will Fall’ (2016) and the 'Our Pathetic Age’ double album (2019). A restless quest for forgotten gems from musical history to sample and the urge to experiment are the common thread throughout his career. His latest album, 'Action Adventure’ which was released last year, in turn is a self-reflective project which came about during the turbulent times of the global COVID lockdown. Unique tapes from the 80s served as inspiration. The album is a paean to his lifelong dedication to music and his role as a collector and curator. Anyone who has ever witnessed DJ Shadow live will know this a total experience not to be missed.
