Dries Laheye

Musician Dries Laheye will know the way to the Bijlokesite. He has been a composer and bassist for performers such as Fulco, Liesa Van Der Aa, Selah Sue, BRZZVLL, Hoera. and AAN, but his involvement in the avant-garde electro-funk-jazz audience favourite STUFF. also means this is not the first time Laheye has been here. This time, however, he is attending in the role of débutante, given that he is performing his first solo work. This work has been collated on an EP with the beautiful name 'Deining’, a wind-generated wave pattern on the water or surface of the ocean. This gem was released in February on W.E.R.F. Records.

After completing his jazz studies at the Antwerp Conservatorium, Laheye grew into a musician who was not limited to genres. Improvisations have always been a main ingredient in the many projects in which he has been involved. On 'Deining’, the deep sounds, which may or may not be altered by effects, of his bass guitar are centre-stage and subtle additions by a voice, synthesizer and the Bansuri flute create atmospheric compositions that offer space for improvisation and interpretation. The most important intention was to make music that, in a certain sense, keeps on moving, hence the title. The result is a dreamy world in which Laheye can move around and retain the freedom to express himself at any moment.
