At Gent Jazz, we love to keep our ear to the ground. And that is certainly the case with Omasta. The Polish quintet have only just performed their first live show, a fantastic set honouring the hip-hop legend J Dilla in Paul’s Boutique Record Store in their home town of Krakow. The show managed to convince not only an exuberant audience but also us. Omasta aims to tread new pathways without leaving the existing routes behind. They thus combine jazz with influences from hip-hop and street culture, using a driven rhythm section, supported by piano, trumpet, saxophone and... flute. So, André 3000 is no longer the only link between hip-hop and flutes at Gent Jazz 2024. The members of Omasta are working hard on releasing their first record on Polish quality label Astigmatic Records. This summer, Gent will be granted an exclusive preview!
