Salami Rose Joe Louis

What do you get when a former climate scientist, a graduate in planetary studies, starts making music? This unique combination has led to a surprising but fantastic musical experience on the boundaries of jazz, rock, hip hop and contemporary pop that expands on the consequences of climate change. That is the precise story of singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Lindsay Olsen. As a teenager, Olsen played in various punk groups in the city of her birth, San Diego. During her scientific studies, she also fell into other genres and familiarised herself with the world of producing. In 2016, her first solo album was released as Salami Rose Joe Louis.

Shortly after the release of her second album, Olsen was involved in a serious car crash. In the weeks thereafter, which were spent at home, she decided to focus on music. In 2019, she was signed by leading label Brainfeeder, known for the electronica giant Flying Lotus, and in the years that followed she toured with acts such as Toro y Moi, The Cinematic Orchestra, TuneYards and The Comet is Coming. 'Akousmatikous’, her latest album, which was released in 2013, tells the story of the Earth in 2080. The planet is in total decline due to the mismanagement of unethical companies and corrupt governments. The main character in her world? A synthwizard with a torch, a pot of cashew nuts and a ton of optimism! If you want to know how the story ends, you’ll have to listen at Gent Jazz but our curiosity is certainly piqued!
