Stavroz

Thirteen years ago, bona fide music nerds IJsbrand De Wilde and Gert Beazar uncovered a shared passion for creating music in which worlds collided. These worlds encompassed jazz, burlesque and Balkan, along with house, minimal and sounds from alternative electronica. It is a format which caught on and, after a few years, was strengthened with the addition of guitarist Maxim Helincks and saxophonist Pieter De Meester. The quartet has since walked a line between the limits of genres but also strayed into the field of tension between acoustic instrumentation, loops, samples, electronic effects and computer beats. Live, they have evolved from 'interesting DJ set’ to 'intriguing, compelling live act’ that some have even described as 'life-changing’.

Stavroz conquers the world with his 'organic house’ - the name that they give to their organic melting pot of genres and sounds. And that is no exaggeration. They have struck gold in France; held the number one spot for several months on Beatport, the most important hit list for electronic music; been added to the soundtrack of GTA V, the best selling game ever; and enjoy millions of ongoing streams. Twelve years of touring have taken them to the biggest festivals (Coachella! Strawberry Fields! Fusion Festival!) and stages in over forty countries. The most difficult thing? Getting a foot on the ground in their own country. This has led to the nickname 'the best kept secret in Belgium’. But the tide is changing, and Gent Jazz is happy to make its contribution.
