As artists go, it is impossible to pigeon-hole Carlens. He is a singer, musician, composer, producer, theatre maker, designer as well as a visual artist. 30 years after his debut album came out, he is currently putting the finishing touches to his 20th opus, having racked up hundreds of live gigs at home and abroad, which take in anything from raw blues, playful theatricality, heartfelt melancholy all the way up to super funky escapades.
The path his career has covered roughly breaks down into 3 main periods.
From 1993 to 2009, he was mainly operating under the monikers of Moondog Jr. and especially Zita Swoon, a band that received the first of several gold records for their 'I Paint Pictures On A Wedding Dress’ album, which was recorded in New Orleans in 1999, and spent years touring Europe, delivering intense and explosive live shows.
From 2009 to 2016, SKC renamed his band the Zita Swoon Group, who were more of a troupe than a pop band, interacting with artists from other disciplines and different cultures.
From 2017 to the present day, SKC has been gigging under his own name, alternately playing the songs of two of his studio albums, along with a selection from his extensive repertoire, with his five-piece band and in remarkable solo performances that see him play a myriad of instruments all at the same time.
2024 is time for new music from SKC! In mid-January, he lifted a corner of the veil by releasing 'Walk On Red, Stop On Green’, the first funky single. SKC’s live band, expanded to a steaming septet, is set to play the brand new album at Gent Jazz!
