For more than three decades, Britain's Tindersticks have specialised in music that unfolds slowly: dark, warm, cinematic, and marked by an emotional precision that places its finger — or Band-Aid — exactly where it hurts. Led by Stuart Staples’ unmistakable baritone, enriched with orchestral arrangements and a meticulous attention to detail, the band has occupied the borderland between indie and jazz since the early 1990s. Their sound is both remarkably consistent and quietly versatile: understated without ever feeling remote, suffused with melancholy and longing yet never tipping into pathos.

In addition to an impressive discography, Tindersticks have earned a formidable reputation as a live band, where their subtle arcs of tension and widescreen soundscapes come fully into their own. At Gent Jazz — on the Bijloke site, where balmy summer evenings lend themselves perfectly to daydreams — Tindersticks will be performing in the ideal setting for their intense, slow-burners.
