American saxophonist and composer Zoh Amba has firmly established herself in recent years. She broke through in 2022 with O, Sun, produced by John Zorn on his Tzadik-label, where she shared her intensely spiritual and no-compromise approach to jazz with the world. This generated collaborations with artists such as Vijay Iyer, Chris Corsano and William Parker and opportunities to play well-known festivals including Rewire, BRDCST, Jazz En Agosto and Roulette. It was due to a commission from the latest festival in New York that the Sun Ensemble came about. Together with Lex Korten (piano), Devon Gates (bass) and Miguel Marcel Russell (drums), Amba blends avant-garde, noise and spiritual hymns to create energetic, ecstatic and experimental trips that touch both heart and soul. Ruthless, raw and imploring; Sun Ensemble proves itself time and again as one of the most urgent voices of the moment.
