30 new names!

Gent Jazz has now completed the line-up with 30 new artists. From 4 to 19 July, the festival will deliver at least eight concerts every day. With additions including Benjamin Clementine, Nectar Woode, SEXMOB, Nordmann and the Tania Giannouli Trio, Gent Jazz is once again demonstrating its commitment to honouring the jazz traditions while embracing exciting cross-overs with other genres.

On Saturday, 19 July, you can look forward to the modern jazz of the Elijah Fox Trio and to Benjamin Clementine, who recently conquered a sold-out AB with his poetic sound and imposing presence. New on the Garden Stage, we have Bandler Ching, the Brussels-based trio which seamlessly blends jazz, electronica and worldwide influences.

SATURDAY 19 JULY
KAMASI WASHINGTON - BENJAMIN CLEMENTINE - LANDER & ADRIAAN - ELIJAH FOX TRIO - ADJA
JOHAN DUPONT TRIO - L’ANTIDOTE - BANDLER CHING

Steven Bernstein's SEXMOB has been re-working popular songs into jazz numbers for over 25 years. On 12 July, they will bring the energy of a 1950s sweaty jazz club to Gent Jazz, while Zoh Amba Sun Ensemble will provide a no-holds-barred mix of avant-garde jazz, noise and spiritual hymns.

SATURDAY 12 JULY
BRANFORD MARSALIS QUARTET pay tribute to 'Belonging’ by Keith Jarrett - STEVE COLEMAN & FIVE ELEMENTS - TIGRAN HAMASYAN -  GANAVYA - KIN GAJO
JOE WEBB TRIO - ZOH AMBA SUN ENSEMBLE - STEVEN BERNSTEIN 'SEXMOB’

The line-up on the Main Stage on 6 July was already impressive, with The Roots, Baloji, ’t Hof Van Commerce, Jamila Woods and Bombino. The addition of modern jazz-futurist Kassa Overall, multi-instrumentalist Kaito Winse, Brussels neo-soul artist STACE, rapper Fred Gata and DJ Grazzhoppa on the Garden Stage add a finishing touch to the festival.

SUNDAY 6 JULY
THE ROOTS - BOMBINO - JAMILA WOODS - 'T HOF VAN COMMERCE - BALOJI
KAITO WINSE - STACE - FRED GATA - KASSA OVERALL - DJ GRAZZHOPPA

On 10 July, the Garden Stage is dedicated to the collaboration between Gent Jazz and HOGENT. The cynical cheeriness of Frans Kalf, the existential crisis-core of Kleinpunk and the narrative jazz of Alver will be showcased by KASK and the Conservatorium Gent. It had previously been announced that The Philharmonik would close the proceedings on the Garden Stage.

THURSDAY 10 JULY
IBRAHIM MAALOUF - MADELEINE PEYROUX - JOSÉ JAMES - AN PIERLÉ QUARTET
THE PHILHARMONIK - FRANS KALF - ALVER - KLEINPUNK

The Garden Stage will host a truck-load of talent. In our garden, Belgian artists such as echofarmer, Iqnovara, Stadlander, 2 Times Nothing and Empty Apartments will experiment with jazz influences and cross-overs into other genres. In addition, Sam Bettens will present his new country, Americana sound. The intense, eclectic jazz of Argentine  Gal Go - saxophonist for King Krule - will also make an appearance. To round it all off, German pianist Niklas Paschburg will enchant us with neoclassical electronica.

And it doesn't stop there. More exciting names will be added to the line-up of the following sold-out festival days: the Main Stage will be enriched on 9 July with Tania Giannouli Trio’s organic mix of classic tradition, jazz and world music. Sunday 13 July has been expanded to include the genre-fluid sound of composer/pianist Maria Chiara Argirò and the experimental Gent-based jazz collective Nordmann and the unique blend of jazz, nu-jazz, broken beat, and house from Brussels-based Kuna Maze. On 14 July, we will be treated to the rich soul of London singer-songwriter Nectar Woode, the warm soundscapes of Chantal Acda & The North Sea Drifters and the soul-jazz of the Brussels-based Jazmyn. On 16 July, you’ll discover the electronic afrofunk of London-based Ibibio Sound Machine and the Rotterdam-based R&B and soul singer Ebony Winter
